Privatized Body Camera Network

Citizen Halo is an open-source, community-deployable body camera network designed to work without relying on cellular service. Small, battery-powered cameras use Wi-Fi HaLow—a long-range, sub-GHz Wi-Fi standard—to connect into a local network that can cover up to a kilometer or more, even in crowded or challenging environments. Cameras can be worn or mounted, record locally, and stream live to a nearby bridge connected to any standard PC, which then uploads feeds and metadata to a shared website where authorized viewers can see devices on a map and watch live or recorded video. The system is intentionally low-cost, modular, and transparent, prioritizing accessibility, resilience, and community ownership over high-end hardware, with all designs and software published so anyone can inspect, run, or adapt the network themselves.
